Confessions Suspended

In the interest of the safety of our penitents and priests alike, we have suspended Confessions, effective immediately.

Rest assured that we are taking these decisions very seriously. While much is still unknown of the extent of spread and severity of the ill-effects the coronavirus causes, it is prudent to act out of caution to do whatever we can to prevent or at least slow its further spread, particularly to the most vulnerable among us.

We are currently brainstorming ways to continue offering Confession again while also ensuring the safety of both penitent and priest. Please stay tuned for updates.

In the meantime, the faithful are encouraged to make a regular examination of conscience — even daily — and to pray for forgiveness whenever aware of sin, particularly an Act of Contrition. See below for a few examples  from vaticannews.va.

 

Act of Contrition (traditional)

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love.

I firmly resolve with the help of Thy grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen.

 

Act of Contrition (alternate form)

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. 

I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.

Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, my God, have mercy.

Lord Jesus, you opened the eyes of the blind, healed the sick, forgave the sinful woman, and after Peter's denial confirmed him in your love.
