February 22-23 is the 2020 Catholic Services Appeal “Commitment Weekend,” and I am asking all parishioners to make a financial commitment to support the work of the many ministries that are funded by the CSAF that no one parish can support on its own.
As pastor of Nativity of Our Lord, I want to thank all of you who have given to this campaign in past years and/or have responded to a recent mailing from the Catholic Services Appeal Foundation. I want to assure all of you that your gifts to the CSAF will be used solely for the purposes of the 2020 Appeal or back in our parish.
Contributions go directly to the Designated Ministries themselves — including several which impact our parish directly — as well as returned to Nativity in the form of a 50% rebate of all funds collected over our goal. (Note: in years past, this was 25% of all funds received.)
As you may remember, I’ve served on the CSAF board of directors for a number of years now, and I continue to be a passionate supporter of the foundation and the good work it enables here at Nativity of Our Lord and throughout the Archdiocese. And so I ask you to make a generous contribution.
Each year, the Catholic Services Appeal funds 20 Designated Ministries, including:
Over 30 local food pantries that distribute nearly 4 million pounds of food;
Over 7,500 nights of housing and emergency shelter;
Hospital chaplains serving over 100,000 Catholics;
Sacramental ministry to those in prison;
Pro-life outreach and support for the disabled;
Every Catholic elementary school in our Archdiocese (including our own) and 13 Catholic High Schools, with over $2.5 million in student scholarships and funding;
Tuition, room, and board assistance for over 50 individuals studying for the priesthood for our Archdiocese; and
Evangelistic outreach programs serving young people and senior citizens and every age in between.
