The Church celebrates the solemn feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, when Our Lady was taken body and soul up to heaven, on August 15.
Not only is this a great day of celebration on Mary’s behalf, but her Assumption also prefigures each faithful Christian’s heavenly reward.
As the feast falls on a Sunday this year, it replaces the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time in our liturgical calendar. As such, there is no further obligation than to attend Mass that day (or a vigil Mass the previous evening).
