As I walk the grounds or attend the Saturday dinner, I am always struck by the camaraderie, dedication, and generosity of this community in creating a remarkable, one-of-a-kind gathering.
This year we again welcomed Archbishop Bernard Hebda (pictured below to my right with Fr. Nick and Fr. John Ubel) who visited the Fair on Friday evening. And, of course, Fr. Nick Hagen, participating in the Fair for the first time, was awed by the joy and participation of so many—culminating with hundreds of us participating in the worship of our Lord and God at Sunday outdoor Mass. What a weekend!
“
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.” —Phil. 4:4.
While the entire Fair was a stand-out, I want to remark on the generosity of the County Fair Live Auction Dinner attendees. A crowd of nearly 400 opened their hearts to offer, for the third year running, Fund a Need contributions nearing or exceeding $100,000.
The vast majority of the Fund a Need donations support scholarship awards (for those with financial needs) at Nativity School, but this year a small portion will also fund playground improvements. I look forward to reporting on the outcome of the entire Fair when those financial figures are available.
I am profoundly grateful to the County Fair Chairs: Claire and Steve Noble and Sheryl and Mark Sheehan; and the Steering Committee: Mark and Christine Bergeron, Matt Mundy and Bridget McConville, Tom and Mary Ek, Tim and Esther Sobocinski, Andy and Jamie Omann, Tom and Casey Stephens, Steve and Mary Jo Katras, Jeremy and Brigid Ling (Chairs Emeritus), and Dan and Kelly Wicker (Chairs Emeritus). And, I look forward to working with the 2019 Chairs, Tom and Mary Ek and Matt Mundy and Bridget McConville.
Finally, thank you to all who attended, volunteered, and financially supported Nativity County Fair 2018. The Fair could not happen without the whole parish community coming together to make it a success.
