My name is Fr. Bill Duffert and I have been assigned as your new Parochial Vicar!
It is hard to believe that a month has already gone by since my assignment here began. Everyone has been very welcoming and has helped me settle in.
As this might be the first time introducing myself to some of you, I would like to share a brief description of how Christ has led me to the priesthood.
I grew up in Ramsey, MN with my older sister and younger brother. I am blessed to have a family that has always been supportive of my vocation to the priesthood.
Growing up, my parents provided a strong foundation for the Catholic faith in our lives. Regarding my discernment of the priesthood, it was not until my junior year of college that I remember feeling as though God might be calling me to become a priest.
I was able to recognize that stirring in my heart; however, I did not respond right away with a resounding “Yes Lord, I will enter seminary!” Instead, I graduated and began a career in education.
I enjoyed teaching, but after thinking and praying for several years about whether or not to join the seminary, I finally gave in and said to the Lord, “You win!”
After completing my philosophy requirements in 2015, I spent two years fundraising with The Labouré Society to decrease my student loan debt and continue my studies. I began the Theology program at St. Paul Seminary in 2017 and was finally ordained to the priesthood this past May!
Thank you again for welcoming me into this beautiful parish and know that you all are in my prayers. I am delighted to be a part of your community, and I consider it a great privilege to be able to serve you all.
Please introduce yourself during the coming weeks!
