Beginning Monday, October 23, work will begin on installing a quarry tile floor in the center cross aisle of church’s nave. The quarry tile is the same make and design as the main center and side aisles, installed in the original church construction in the late 1930s. As you may recall, several years ago pews were removed in the center of the church to create an accessible aisle for those with mobility needs. With the increased traffic on that cross aisle, the underlying hardwood—never meant to serve as an aisle walking surface—has become very worn and damaged.
A generous donor has undertaken all costs associated with replacing the damaged wood flooring and installing quarry tile, making the cross aisle consistent in design, appearance and durability with the other church aisles. A rendering of the design is included below.
During the next two weeks, Communion distribution at all masses will be altered somewhat. Please follow the directions given prior to Communion at each Mass. It is also possible that daily Masses will be held in Steiner Hall intermittently as well. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this time. I know the end result will be a beautiful, durable floor surface, enhancing the quiet elegance as well as the serviceability of our parish church.
Christ’s blessings on your week.
Fr. Patrick
