As we move through the fall and look forward to Thanksgiving, for many of us this change in season inspires a greater recognition of God as the source of all blessings. As Catholics, though, an acknowledgement of God’s generosity is only one-half of a two-sided relationship. Just as important is putting these God-given gifts of ours into action in service to the Lord.
As the Psalmist reminds us, our challenge is to understand our calling as Christian disciples and to respond generously by putting our gifts to work in building up His kingdom on earth. In responding to His call, our stewardship becomes an act of sweet worship and devotion just as surely as our presence at Mass, our sharing in the Eucharist, or our prayer time in the Adoration Chapel.
The path to stewardship often requires that we step out in faith. At next weekend’s masses, I will be inviting you to join us on a journey to build God’s kingdom here at Nativity. Not in a mall lukewarm way, but in a large way that mirrors God’s love and great gifts to us. In this next week, I invite you to pray about your thankfulness for God’s blessings and your upcoming response to his call.
